Agri Skills Transfer was established in 2004 for training mainly in the Agricultural Sector (Primary and Secondary), and accredited by the AgriSETA.

Agri Skills Transfer’s training is developed on the SAQA system. We took a business decision to align with outcome-based education and to develop our courses according to the National Qualification Framework. With the new QCTO requirements coming we are already on board and adapting our training material as required by the new legislation.

    Agri Trade Processes

    This qualification is registered at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It provides learners with the opportunity to access learning in broad Agri Trade processes and practices, which include opportunities for learners to grow in the specific field.

    Learners will be able to combine fundamental, core and elective unit standards in order to gain competence linked to best practice. Learners will, once qualified and assessed as competent, be able to demonstrate competence in ordering, receiving, pricing, storing and selling of merchandise as well as stock taking and completing of sales transactions. Learners will also demonstrate an understanding of the Agri Trade Industry

    Animal Production (National Certificate & National Diploma)

    This qualification will form the basis for learners to extend their learning into more specialised areas of animal production and provides the basis of the establishment of sustainable farming operations through the inclusion of a wide spectrum of competencies required by farmers in South Africa. Whilst technical production orientated competencies are ensured, other aspects such as agri-business and good agricultural practices are included in the range of competencies required by farmers in order to enable them to strive towards agricultural management standards and practices at higher levels.

    Competent qualifying learners in this qualification will participate in the production quality agricultural products in Animal Husbandry whereby enhancing the overall agricultural process and gain opportunities to access local, national and international agricultural markets.

    Farm Together Workshop

    The Farm Together learning programme has been develop to assist farming cooperatives to integrate into the broader South African agricultural context by addressing a range of skills that include governance, business skills, and business choices.

    The Farm Together learning programme will enhance the ability of the members of Cooperatives to operate and function within a sustainable business.

    Cooperative members who complete the learning programme will be able to apply the learning within their own agricultural cooperative context. Individual cooperative members can be individually assessed, accredited, and registered on the national qualifications framework.

    Food and Beverage Handling Processes

    This qualification will contribute to increasing levels of personal and product safety and will develop a common integrated and co-ordinated approach to the handling of food and related products. A person acquiring this qualification will be able to have an understanding of personal and product safety, life skills that will allow them to be responsible citizens, who in turn, will provide benefits to the society and economy of South Africa and knowledge and skills in the handling of food and related products.

    Horticulture

    This qualification provides learners with a comprehensive base of portable skills that will enable them to progress within all spheres of the horticultural industry. This qualification forms an integral step in the career paths of the various disciplines in ornamental horticulture and follows on from the NQF Level 1 Certificate. For those already employed in the industry, this qualification will offer learners the opportunity to hone their skills and receive recognition for their competencies.

    Mixed Farming

    This qualification provides learners the opportunity to gain a qualification in Mixed Farming Systems (Plant- and Animal Production). The range of typical learners that will enter this qualification will vary and includes:

    • Junior farm labourers who wish to progress to the level of Labourer within farming operations in Plant Production;
    • Farm owners, in possession of an equivalent qualification at NQF 1;
    • Learners in possession of different levels of practical experience in farming operations, which will be assessed and RPL’ed;
    • Possible candidates for promotion identified by the community as leaders.

    The learner will engage in supervision and operational activities relevant to Mixed Farming.

    Plant Production

    Poultry Production

    The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to gain competence in poultry production and will facilitate their securing employment in the industry. For those who are already employed on a poultry production farm, the multi skilling that the qualification offers will open up a career path in the industry.
